Verified news, no shortcuts

Editorial policy

Histor’s editorial principles, standards and responsibilities.

Principles

1) Accuracy before speed. 2) Always distinguish confirmed facts from attributed and unconfirmed information. 3) Attribution and links to sources. 4) Independence: no advertiser, subscriber or source decides what we publish. 5) Transparency about automation. 6) Prompt, visible correction of errors.

Sources

We classify sources by type (primary official, official, agency, outlet, named journalist, academic, company, witness, social network, blog, aggregator, anonymous). A single source is never enough to confirm something, even an official one: we need at least two independent sources. Official gazettes and automated alerts can corroborate, but never originate a story on their own.

Anonymous sources and social media are never enough on their own. Satirical sources are excluded.

Quotes

We never invent quotes. A verbatim quote must exist word for word in a source, keep its meaning and be attributed to the right person. When a quote is not needed, we paraphrase.

Headlines and experiments

Headlines must faithfully represent the content. We only test variants that pass the same checks, and we choose by actual reading, not clicks.

Opinion

The Opinion section only publishes editorial content clearly labelled as such. We never mix opinion with news.

People and privacy

We do not publish unnecessary personal data about private individuals. Serious allegations are always attributed and respect the presumption of innocence.

Automation and AI

Automated desks are not people. AI models only write from verified facts and their text is validated before publication. We do not generate images to illustrate real events.
